Job Description
Communications Director – Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Atlanta
General Scope of Responsibilities
Under the direction of His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios (the “Metropolitan”), and the administrative
guidance of the Chancellor of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Atlanta (“Metropolis”) and the Head Coaches of the Metropolis of Atlanta Strategic Plan (“Strategic Plan”) , this position is primarily responsible for:
Directing the communications, community and public relations efforts of the Metropolis and the
Metropolitan;
Being principally responsible for leading the communications efforts regarding the Strategic Plan,
including Communications Strategic Goals 3.1 and 3.2;
Coordinating and collaborating with Parish communications liaisons across the Metropolis (“Parish
Champions”) concerning communications strategies and initiatives, and specifically coordinating the
efforts of the Parish Champions regarding Strategic Plan and Metropolis communications;
Helping to promote and communicate about the Metropolis of Atlanta Diakonia Retreat Center
(“DRC”);
Supporting the ministry of the Metropolitan with creative use of communications and information
technology; and
Responding to the communications and information needs, as requested and approved, of the
parishes and ministries of the Metropolis, DRC, entities affiliated with the Metropolis, and the
Strategic Plan.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
• Lead all efforts related to the continued maintenance and support of the Metropolis and Strategic Plan websites, working in conjunction with Strategic Plan Technology Task Force 10.1.
• Proactively work to make sure Metropolis, Strategic Plan and DRC maintains an effective presence on theweb including style/presence, search engines and new technologies.
• Help update Metropolis web presence with the latest communications from the Metropolitan.
PR/Promotions
• Create communication strategies to market, inform, and promote key messages, significant events and other campaigns assigned.
• Develop system to organize, prioritize and communicate Metropolis and DRC promotions and key messages.
• Create positive relationships with local and Southeastern media.
• Develop press releases and all written materials utilized for public relations purposes
Social Media
• Manage ongoing social media messaging and communication strategies, working in conjunction with
Strategic Plan Technology Task Force 10.2.
• Creatively build followings on various social media outlets including but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and other effective or new social media outlets. Creative, Design & Brand Management
• Lead efforts to design all art and promotional materials related to Metropolis-wide, DRC and Strategic Plan activities with a high standard of creativity, excellence and effectiveness.
• Monitor the look and feel of all promotional materials representing Metropolis and its Strategic Plan and
• Develop creative ways to communicate desired messages with the Metropolis current and target audiences.
• Join brainstorming and creative sessions.
• Oversee efforts related to securing or responding to media attention.
• Help spearhead crisis communications responses for the Metropolis and its Parishes.
• Develop policy and procedures related to media relations.
• Enlist, equip and encourage qualified volunteers such as artists, designers, photographers, writers at
Metropolis and Parish levels.
Qualifications & Required Skills
• A heart for the Orthodox Christian faith, and a passion to use communications to reach others.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Degree in communications or related field
• Reasonable experience in corporate or non-profit organization communications.
• Proven ability to take projects from beginning to end.
• Organized and able to manage multiple projects.
• Action-oriented and displays focus, passion and initiative. Takes appropriate action when something needs to be done with a sense of urgency.
• Relates well to all kinds of people, builds effective relationships, and communicates effectively both
interpersonally and “corporately.”
