Job Description

The Greek Language School of Sts Constantine and Helen program provides instruction in conversation, reading and writing in the Modern Greek language. Classes are offered for students aged Kindergarten to adult, from Beginner to Advanced. Classes meet weekdays in the afternoons/evenings and on Saturdays. Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Cardiff, California, supports the ministry of the Greek Language School.

Greek language teachers introduce students to the Greek culture through language. In addition to learning to speak, read and write in Greek, the curriculum includes instruction in Greek cultural events and historic holidays, both secular and religious. The Greek Orthodox faith, Greek mythology, Greek ancient history and politics also play a part in the curriculum, depending on the level and maturity of the students.

 


Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

·         Eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

·         Fluency in speaking, reading and writing Greek.

·         Knowledge of elementary-aged student and adult teaching techniques

·         Graduation from High School in the US or in Greece. Applicants who are not graduates of a Greek primary and secondary school, but are able to demonstrateoutstanding achievement and knowledge, are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants who did not graduate from High School in Greece will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and if hired, placed in a teaching assignment appropriate to their level of language mastery.

·         Ability to use email, text and the Internet and have a working knowledge of MS Word.

Pass background check in accordance with the Metropolis of San Francisco.

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Graduation from a High School in Greece

·         Completion of an undergraduate degree in Greece

·         Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Modern Greek from any university

·         Teaching credential from a Greek or American school.

 

·         Experience teaching at K-12 or adult level.
