General Expectations & Position Summary

The Church Secretary is the face of the parish. As such, a genuine cheery disposition, excellent writing and people skills are essential. The Church Secretary is responsible for managing and routing all daily communication and visitor relations by exhibiting professional and courteous interpersonal skills.

 

Having an overall awareness of daily parish life and providing the first layer of security for the building is crucial. We expect you to have a working knowledge and understanding of Orthodox Christianity so that you can field general questions and discern to whom referrals should be sent.

Church Office hours are Tuesday through Friday 9:00 am until 3:30 pm.

 

Salary: $18,000.00 to $22,000.00 /year


Job Requirements

Primarily this role supports the Parish Priest in leading the congregation. Secretary tasks and skills required:

  • Superb organizational skills to manage office paperwork
  • Professional and pleasant telephone demeanor for incoming/outgoing calls
  • Organize regular correspondence with the parishioners and the diocese
  • Works well with variety of people as support staff to Parish Ministries
  • Confidentially maintain/organize Parish Records, Files and Mailing lists
  • Coordinate Parish calendar and activities
  • Oversee building maintenance activities
  • Assist with and write and distribute Parish Communications; digital and paper
  • Coordinate Volunteers assisting with these and any office activities
  • Competencies: Microsoft Office, general computer and copy machine knowledge, good organizational, problem solving, and time management skills
  • Must be punctual
