Job Description


Annunciation Orthodox School seeks an experienced, dynamic, creative individual to serve as our Director of Communications.  The candidate who fills this newly established role will work closely with the Head of School and the Director of Advancement to develop and implement an integrated, strategic communications plan designed to communicate and promote the mission of the school to internal and external audiences. The Director of Communications is responsible for communicating through a wide variety of internal and external channels such as branding, marketing, print and digital publications, graphic design, video, photography, social media and media relations. The school seeks candidates who are passionate about independent schools and who are experienced leaders in the communication field.


·        Develop and execute a comprehensive communication strategy that engages internal and external constituents in support and promotion of the school.

·        Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and public relations strategy and make adjustments as dictated by the market.

·        Collaborate with the Director of Advancement to create and direct The Delphian magazine (concept, design, content, editorial and production) so that it reaches and influences the school’s target audiences.

·        Along with the Director of Advancement and the Director of Admissions, oversee the production of a variety of materials meant to increase the school’s visibility and enhance the brand of the school.

·        Design and produce printed materials including the annual report and admissions materials. This includes tracking production schedules and timelines with graphic designers and printers.

·        Create and maintain the content of the AOS website so it is timely and reflective of the spirit and mission of the school.

·        Work with the Director of Advancement to manage an integrated presence on social media platforms.

·        Develop and maintain relationships with local media and pitch stories to the media as part of a broader strategic plan to elevate the visibility of the school.

·        Develop an effective and reliable crisis communication plan to be used by the school. Evaluate the crisis communication plan on a regular basis and make adjustments as needed.

·        Perform other duties as assigned by and in support of the Head of School.


Job Requirements




·         Bachelor’s degree in related field; master’s degree preferred

·         5+ years of experience in marketing and communications; independent schools or nonprofit organizations preferred

·         Exceptional written and oral communication skills

·         Strong at prioritization and multi-tasking

·         Experience in desktop publishing design and management of design production

·         Demonstrated experience with photography, videography, website content management, and social   media

·         Understanding of media relations

·         Actions and values that align with the school’s mission and culture

·         Ability to get along well with co-workers and other school community members
