Job Description

The Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New York City is seeking a Controller. We are looking for a self-directed and experienced Controller responsible for financial and accounting activities for both the Cathedral and The Cathedral School. The successful candidate will be responsible for budget management, financial analysis, payroll, forecasting, accounts payable, accounts receivable and financial reporting. Background

Founded in 1891, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity is one of the oldest Greek Orthodox congregations in the United States, and is the national Cathedral of the United States of America. In addition to serving its local congregants in New York City, the Cathedral is home to a variety of events of national scope.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Compile and analyze financial results to prepare reporting packages
  • Liaise with external accounts to prepare and report financial results
  • Monitor the financial performance of the company
  • Participate in the development of and support the company’s strategic plans
  • Develop and manage financial controls in accordance with the company’s procedures
  • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Communicate financial metrics to senior management
  • Process accounts receivable and accounts payable efforts
  • Preparation of payroll for providers and administrative staff
  • Monitors and confirms financial conditions by providing information to external auditors for both the Archdiocesan Cathedral and the Cathedral School.
  • Prepares supporting schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data in order to assist with the preparation of monthly and annual operating budgets
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions.
  • Work closely with Financial team of The Cathedral and The Cathedral School

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
  • Public accounting experience required, Big Four experience strongly preferred
  • CPA is desirable, but not required
  • Proficient with Quickbooks and Excel
  • Process and procedure driven
  • Minimum 8-10 years of accounting experience in a senior accounting or financial management role
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Impeccable analytical and organizational skills

Other Details

Compensation: Negotiable.

Weekly Commitment: Four days per week for a total of 30 hours.
