Director
St. Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine, located in St. Augustine, Florida, invites applications for the position of Director.
Hired by the Permanent Board of the St. Photios Foundation, Inc. and reporting to the Executive Board, the Director has the overall strategic and operational responsibility for the Shrine’s non-profit status, its staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission.
She or he will initially develop deep knowledge of historical context, core programs, operations, and business plans.
The Director oversees all personnel and administrative duties, including but not limited to operating authority and fiscal responsibility.
The ideal incumbent should be a "relationship builder" with excellent communication skills responsible for the vision and mission development by and with the trustees and the staff of the St. Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine within all aspects of its daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinates, supports and works in partnership with the Trustees of the St. Photios Foundation to build and strengthen the Shrine’s administration and operations.
- Oversees the Shrine's financial operations and development of strategic plans to improve and ensure positive financial practices. The incumbent should be familiar with audits, compliance, and adherence to financial controls.
- Creates conditions for fundraising success (vision, pitch, training, technology, etc.) Plans, leads, and executes fundraising events with potential donors, and builds relationships to encourage and seek new donors. Inspires and provides strategic guidance to trustees, staff, and volunteers to work collectively to achieve the Shrine's mission goals.
- Conducts and implements the full scope of administrative activities relating to personnel and performance management for staff and ensures the Shrine’s personnel compliance with local, state of Florida, and federal labor laws and regulations.
- Recognizes and promotes recognition of the National Shrine's religious impact and historical relationship within the local, county, and state civic authorities as well as within the Greek Orthodox community in the United States and abroad.
- Collaborates and works closely with the Board Trustees and the Archdiocese on programs and activities relevant to the mission of the Shrine and within the guidelines of its ByLaws. The Director is responsible for the quality and effectiveness of each event.
- Delivers informative and engaging speeches on behalf of the Shrine to Clergy-Laity Assemblies, trustees, tourists, schools and other community organizations, city, county, and state visitor centers on behalf of the Shrine.
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with the priests and parishioners of the surrounding three Greek Orthodox parishes located within the NE Florida conference of the Metropolis of Atlanta.
- Ensures the Shrine's social media is current, information for the website is given to the Shrine Manager for ongoing updates, and keeps the Shrine archives are in order.
Qualifications
Preferred: Graduate of Hellenic College Holy Cross
Mandatory:
- A member in good standing within the Orthodox Church.
- Five years of experience working with the Greek Orthodox Church of America in a leadership role with a deep knowledge and understands and ascribes to the protocols within the Orthodox faith.
- Or Leadership experience within a not-for-profit environment for five or more years and understands and ascribes to the protocols within the Orthodox faith
- Or Ten or more years of management or supervisory experience and understands and ascribes to the protocols within the Orthodox faith
- Greek Language Skills
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field
- Master's Degree preferred.
