Ministry Support Coordinator (Chicagoland Area)
About OYM:
OYM, the official youth and young adult ministry of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America, exists to bring young people into the fullness of Christian community so that they may be transfigured in Christ. We do that by helping prepare the Orthodox faithful to guide young people into personal encounters with God where He reveals His truth.
Responsibilities:
Ministry, Communication, Administration
- Attend weekly meetings with OYM staff to discuss youth ministry project development ideas, project implementation and impact evaluation.
- Maintain regular communication and meetings with the Chicagoland Orthodox Youth Advisory Committee to determine local youth ministry needs.
- Coordinate meetings with participating parish youth and young adult ministry leaders.
- Stay current with OYM content, events, and resources, as well as national youth ministry trends.
- Meet with parish leaders, including clergy, to review youth ministry progress and gather feedback for impact evaluation purposes.
- Work closely with local clergy, youth workers, and the Chicagoland Youth Advisory Committee to conduct ministry surveys, evaluations, and assessments.
- Compile and analyze data collected to inform decision-making and strategic planning processes.
- Collaborate with local youth leaders across jurisdictions to promote events and activities.
- Maintain daily communication with OYM staff regarding project progress, implementation, and any issues that may arise.
- Provide guidance, training, and resources to parish youth leaders to strengthen local ministry efforts and foster professional development.
- Develop and implement outreach strategies to engage more parishes in the Chicagoland area, promoting increased youth involvement.
Qualifications:
- Profound understanding of the traditional teachings of the Orthodox Christian Church and a good understanding of diverse cultural backgrounds within the Orthodox community, with an ability to work inclusively across jurisdictions and parish demographics.
- Deep commitment to living according to the traditional teachings of the Orthodox Christian Church.
- Proven experience in youth ministry/parish leadership roles.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Willingness to learn about, and participate in, ministry event planning.
- Team player with excellent collaboration skills.
- Good communication skills with attention to detail on written correspondence.
- Proficiency in remote collaboration tools and technology including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to a virtual work environment.
- Access to reliable transportation for parish visits.
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution is preferred.
- Candidate must reside in the Chicagoland area.
- Ability to establish strong working relationships with clergy, parish staff, and youth leaders across multiple jurisdictions.
- Ability to proactively identify ministry opportunities and take ownership of projects with minimal oversight.
- Familiarity with current trends and challenges facing Orthodox Christian youth in today’s society.
- Experience in planning, promoting, and managing events, especially within a ministry or community context, is a plus.
- Willingness to work evenings or weekends to meet with parish communities and attend events as needed.
