Senior Accountant

The Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America is located in Englewood, New Jersey and is seeking a full-time senior accountant to manage all financial transactions, from fixed assets and restricted accounts, to bank and investment account reconciliation and financial statement preparations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, auditing financial documents, and procedures for accuracy and completeness, reconciling bank and investment statements, preparing monthly and financial reports, assisting with internal and external audits, and preparing budgets.

The successful candidate will have prior experience with bookkeeping and a flare for spotting numerical mistakes. Ultimately, you will have to provide accurate quantitative information on the financial position, liquidity, and cash flow of our organization while ensuring we are compliant with all basic nonprofit and tax regulations. Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • managing all accounting transactions
  • assisting with annual budget preparation
  • assist with payroll
  • publish financial statements in a timely manner  
  • handle monthly quarterly and annual closings
  • reconcile accounts payable and receivable
  • prepare monthly bank and investment account reconciliations
  • prepare monthly journal entries
  • prepare annual property tax, exemption reports
  • manage balance sheets and profit and loss statements
  • report on the companies financial health and liquidity
  • financial transactions and documents
  • reinforce financial data, confidentiality, and conduct database backups when necessary
  • comply with financial policies and regulations

Requirements and skills include:

  • prior work experience as a senior accountant
  • BS in accounting, finance, or relevant Degree CPA preferred
  • excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including generally accepted accounting principles (GAP)
  • hands on experience with accounting software like QuickBooks
  • Advanced MS Excel skills, including Vlookups and pivot tables
  • experience with general ledger, functions
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
  • additional certifications such as CPA or CMA is a plus
