5th Grade Math Teacher

Reports to: Head of Middle School
Status: Salaried/Exempt          
Start Date: July 30, 2025
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm; additional time as needed for after-school meetings, events, duties, and professional development.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach daily grade-level math classes within different content strands based on students’ cognitive needs
  • Utilize appropriate instructional strategies that balance content mastery, conceptual understanding, and the development of mathematical literacy
  • Employ differentiated, student-centered teaching practices rooted in brain-based research
  • Develop engaging formative and summative assessments along with other experiences to assess student learning
  • Create and scaffold collaborative tasks that emphasize critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, and problem-solving skills appropriate for the development of adolescent learners
  • Implement classroom management techniques that align with the school’s culture
  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents and students through a variety of means, including face-to-face conversations, phone calls, emails, texts, and conferences
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with other members of the school community
  • Show proficiency with Google Suite for Education productivity tools
  • Integrate technology into the curriculum to strengthen the teaching/learning process
  • Attend an annual grade-level class trip (typically three to four days)
  • Serve as an academic advisor for a group of students 
  • Participate in school events and community service projects
  • Actively engage in a robust assortment of faculty professional development opportunities offered to AOS teachers
  • Fulfill other duties as requested

Qualifications:

  • Actions and values that align with the AOS Mission
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or mathematics with emphasis on math education; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum three years math teaching experience; Middle school experience preferred
  • Experience using multiple pedagogical strategies to build and assess student skills and knowledge
  • Knowledge of research-based practices for effective middle school instruction and adolescent development
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and love for working with middle school students with great energy, playfulness, and understanding
