Director of New Center Growth

Position Title: Director of New Center Growth, FOCUS North America
Position Type: Full time
Organizational Management Reporting: Reports to the Executive Director

Summary

The Director of New Center Growth is responsible for:

  1. identifying and cultivating cities and parishes for potential new Center growth; 
  2. leading said cities through our New Center Development Process; and
  3. supervising and supporting a designated portfolio of Center Directors. 

Reporting directly to the Executive Director of FOCUS North America, the Director of New Center Growth position is a full-time employment opportunity with benefits (vacation, health insurance, 401k).  This position will also work closely with members of the Executive Team, as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify cities with high potential for development of new FOCUS Centers.
  • Cultivate new cities and parishes and prepare them for the start of the New Center Development Process.
  • Lead new cities through the New Center Development Process, working with local Exploratory Committees, as well as the Executive Director and Director of Development. 
  • Work with the Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer to develop budgets for new Centers.
  • Prepare Progress Reports for foundations and individuals that support the New Center Development Process with matching grants.
  • Assist in the hiring, onboarding, and training of new Center Directors of newly designated Centers.
  • Provide direct supervision and support for Center Directors of newly designated Centers, as well as a designated portfolio of Center Directors of more established Centers, in cooperation with the Director of Operations.  
  • Assist in the development of FOCUS NA policy decisions and standard operating procedures, as needed, with the Director of Operations.
  • Ensure that consistent and timely reports on program activities and problems encountered are provided both for internal FOCUS use, as well as for local counterparts and donor agencies (including public relations materials as requested).
  • Speak to community groups, parishes, and public at events sponsored by FOCUS. 
  • Support Center Directors in their engagement of local nonprofit, community development/advocacy, and other networks.
  • Support Center Directors in their engagement of local government and agency officials.
  • Work with the Executive Team as needed to perform job duties.
  • Perform other duties as required and/or assigned by FOCUS Executive Director.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Advanced communication skills (writing, speaking, public presentation).
  • Good connections and familiarity with parishes and jurisdictions across the American Orthodox Church.
  • Knowledge of managing social service and community development programs.
  • Familiarity with federal, state and local laws regarding operation of nonprofit organizations providing homeless and domestic social service/entitlement programs.
  • Understanding of Orthodox Christian Church doctrines and traditions.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher or equivalent products.

Education Experience:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Policy, or Nonprofit Management preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Experience with communications, marketing, and social media.

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum five years of leadership experience in nonprofit or community development work; eight years preferred.
  • Minimum of two years working with organizational Boards.
  • Management of staff (two+) and / or volunteers.
  • Program Management (Food Service, Clothing Service) preferred.
  • Budget Development and Management ($100,000+/year).

  • Efficient and effective time management.
  • Computer proficiency with Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, etc.).

Certifications:

  • None required, but are beneficial (nonprofit management, etc.)
