School Administrator

St. Herman of Alaska Christian School, a ministry of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church, proves that true education is the ongoing formation of a person's mind, body, and soul, as a servant of Christ. In the words of St. Theophan the Recluse, the ultimate goal for parents and educators should be to "raise Saints." At Saint Herman School, the staff, priests, and parents form a close partnership which cultivates virtue and wisdom inspires a love of learning, and prepares children for a bright future, both in the world and in the Church. The School Administrator is the organizational lynchpin facilitating this partnership.

Objectives: The objective of the Administrator is to assist the Headmaster and the Dean of Students in the fulfillment of the mission of St. Herman of Alaska Christian School, now in its 34th year of operation. The School Administrator coordinates the overall day-to-day life of the school in accord with the school's mission.

Hours: Full time, approx. 35 hours a week, 8:30am-3:30pm (M-F) as well as meetings/events outside of regular school hours

Compensation: The Board of Directors of Holy Resurrection will determine compensation for the position based on skills and performance. Annual compensation will reflect 10.5 months of work (approx. mid-August through the end of June). Yearly adjustments to compensation package based cost-of-living increase and reward for meritorious work after review and discussion with Headmaster and Dean of Students and final approval by the Board.

Tasks and Responsibilities

1. Scheduling

  1. Establishing school year calendar and summer meetings schedule
  2. Arranging guest lecturers, substitute teachers, and volunteers
  3. Hosting guests, prospective students, prospective teachers

2. Coordination

  1. Parent-Teacher Conferences
  2. Assemblies (seasonal, liturgical, year-end)
  3. Weekly staff meeting agenda
  4. Yearbook creation and publishing
  5. Administrative meetings w/Headmaster and Dean of Students and or HROC Financial Team
  6. Field trips and special events
  7. School-wide standardized testing
  8. coordination and delegation of maintenance and repairs of outside grounds/classrooms         

3. Communication

  1. Serves as primary point of contact between parents and school
    1. communicates school policy, updates, announcements, etc., to parents
    2. networks between staff and parents regarding concerns about students
  2. Serves as primary point of contact for day-to-day operations of the school
  3. Keeps Headmaster/Dean of Students informed concerning state of operations of the school
  4. Prepares annual reports to outside school districts regarding St. Herman's enrollment as required by state law

4. Policy and Records

  1. Coordinates with Headmaster, staff, and HROC Financial Team to establish school policies and procedures
  2. Enforces disciplinary policy per Student Handbook
  3. Distributes, collects, and maintains student files
  4. Maintains academic records, including the creation and filing of progress reports

5. Promotion, Development, and Recruitment

  1. Works w/ volunteers to keep website maintained and updated
  2. Helps to maintain positive public relations and networking for potential students, staff, and donors
  3. Creates and distributes written updates to parents and possibly donors

6. Fundraising and Financial Maintenance

  1. Works with staff and volunteers to send out regular fundraising letters
  2. Oversees communication of any part-time staff hours to the Financial Team
  3. Oversees purchase of necessary supplies for school

7. Supervision

  1. This position is under the supervision of the School Headmaster and the Dean of Students

8. Expectations 

  1. The Administrator is expected to maintain a spiritual and moral life in accord with Orthodox Christian teaching as expressed in Scripture and Tradition 
  2. Due to school's need for continuity and administrative stability the administrator is expected to sign on for a minimum three-year term, barring any unforeseen or extenuating circumstances
